Slate update – CPU trouble and shielding

Slate update - CPU trouble and shielding

I fucking hate this. I wrote this within an IE9 window for some reason and it swallowed all my text… GRMPF! Ok, so time to rewrite it. God, why did I use this abomination of a browser anyways…

I had two problems with the slate’s function after testing it a bit.

Number one was the CPU. I used the T5200 I had …..

Actually, the market has pretty much changed in the last couple of months and currently there’s some things on the market that are better than what I ended up building. But let’s start somewhere else…

You might remember, from the times when I had updates on a regular basis, that I own some TabletPC. After putting in some newer hard disk …..

Low-Fi for the living room II

Low-Fi for the living room II

The last weeks the speaker box has been in use and proved to do quite well, with a notable exception. While the speakers were able to produce actual bass, they started to distort quite early. Too early for some kinds of music to be listened at a normal volume. So, as there is enough space and volume for a subwoofer, …..

Good solutions don’t need to cost much

Good solutions don't need to cost much

Well, I was about to title this “Good solutions are sometimes simple”, but they are most of the time. In my journey to get rid of paper as thoroughly as I can I’ve already cursed my Tablet’s dock. It sits nearly flat on the ground, which is not bad for typing, but if you want to use it as a …..

Yes, I have been absent for quite some time. Besides a bit of stress related to the usual triple of university, work and private life there’s been a lot of death and illness. Death is most notable for one of our cats, that passed away at the biblical age of 21. A week after that my GF took a leap …..

So I soldered and cut a bit and believe or not, this picture shows an operating device!

The front of the PCB with the mouse buttons and one of the sensitivity buttons has been cut off. Those buttons have to be glued in position and wired manually. You see them lying in the left of the mouse’s PCB in the base …..

Ok, I need some distraction from XML and EDIFACT today, so it’s time for the screwdriver again.

That’s what I wanna use as a housing. It’s old but I like it. Time top open it!

And I love the good old times when screws were not hidden under labels, the devices rubber pads or something.

The looks on the inside are a bit …..

Update: Turns out my knowledge is a bit outdated. Today’s toner does for the majority not contain any kind of metal anymore. The sticking to the drum part is just produced by a static charge and the influence of the electric field on the very small toner particles. At least nowadays…

It does not work with the varieties of magenta and …..

Renew the wiring and up the speed

Renew the wiring and up the speed

When I moved in with my GF in this house, I wasn’t fully aware of the the luck we had with the house’s wiring. It’s rather common that all sorts of wiring can only be replaced by literally braking open the walls. While that’s the case for the electrical wiring, which I don’t mind, luck would have it that not …..

Hack the heating and your usage! For the environment AND the purse.

It is indeed surprising how many people here have never spent a minute thinking about their heating system. It is a logical consequence, though, as renting houses and flats is the common way to get a home here. Technically the heating is the possession of the landlord and so is the responsibility for it. Of course I don’t care when …..
